A nun in Uganda is consumed by doubt as she prepares to take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Her anguish intensifies night after night as she lies in her convent room and listens to the rhythmic drums of her village. Adapted from a short story by Alice Walker, the film is Julie’s first move toward narrative filmmaking. Restored in collaboration with the UCLA Film Archive, where the negatives are held, and with the films’ distributor, Women Make Movies.
